29 August - 4 Sept 2018 Dates TBC

Join the 5-Day Introductory Art Therapy Course in Johannesburg to gain a deeper working understanding of the dynamic Art Therapy process both with individuals and groups. No art or psychology experience is required to benefit!

Art Therapy is a creative treatment process which is beneficial for people of all ages to assist in personal growth, insight and development. The skills and experiences gained by participants on this course can be adapted to and incorporated in diverse work spheres as well as one’s personal life.

The course is suitable for ALL adults including health professionals, educators, therapists, counselors, coaches, students, artists, social workers, Occupational Therapists, parents and anyone interested in the field of Art Therapy, self-growth and creativity.

The 5-day Intro Art Therapy Intensive Course includes the following modules:

1: Art Therapy theory and Psychodynamic literature
2: Case studies examples with children, adults, ADHD, autism, anxiety/depression and more
3: Experiential art making and Journaling daily

What will you gain from the course?

The course provides an invaluable opportunity for enhancing creative and personal insight, exploration and growth, self-reflection as well as learning through group interaction.

The skills and experiences gained by participants on the course can be adapted to and incorporated in many professional work spheres such as various therapeutic interventions, teaching art, the running of groups with children or adults, corporate facilitation, and coaching to name but a few.

NO art skill is necessary in order to benefit from the course. Everyone has the ability to be creative through art! The importance in Art Therapy is on the creative PROCESS and not only the aesthetic product. There are also no judgments made on the artwork.

Art Therapy in groups is a highly effective, powerful and dynamic process. Working within a group format encourages the learning of new and inspiring creative uses of various mediums as a means of expression. Interaction with other group members provides an opportunity for sharing of feedback and insights around the image making process, thereby enhancing the learning experience.

Although the facilitating Art Therapist follows a Psychodynamic approach, an eclectic tool kit is used when appropriate and includes a combination of Art Therapy interventions, coaching, archetypes, numerology, mindfulness, laughter yoga and Journey therapy work. In summary, the course is extremely beneficial for both personal and professional growth!

“It was a time to forget about the problems and the world around me. Sam is a brilliant facilitator. Even though I was nervous, it was a time for me to reflect and to enjoy how therapeutic art can be. It calmed the storm that reigned inside of me. The Mandala Art Therapy workshop is like having a picnic next to a quiet river. You granted time to reach that point where you can become quiet and can experience the Universe.”

- Anonymous -

“A very comprehensive and thorough intro into Art Therapy. Covered a lot of ground in 5 days and left with a priceless manual and a warm glow.”

- Kat -

“It was the best week of my life, I learnt that I could always be happy as long as I was in a happy and comfortable space, and if I wasn’t I needed to create that space. I learnt that I was in control and all I had to do was to take charge and have fun and paint on a bigger board i.e. see the bigger picture. I am so grateful for the opportunity that came my way and that I was able to embrace and savor it.”
